Since 1970 our focus at Willdwood Farm has been raising quality cattle that you like to look at. Our small herd of correct and eye appealing cows with great dispositions and good udders exemplify the traditional qualities that shorthorns are known for. The mothering ability of our cows is shown in the performance on the scale.
We have worked to gain the respect and trust of our customers and fellow cattle producers, through the integrity of our program and customer service.
After 40 years of shorthorns in our pasture, still the fun is working with good cattle and cattle people. Win or lose it’s about the friends we’ve met and the relationships we’ve made.
In 1970 the first shorthorns were purchased in Finlayson, MN with Gordon Mork & Harry Cross breeding. We bought the herd of cattle with Fred Esterly (Jane’s dad and Tom’s grandpa). Grandpa Fred showed and judged Red Polled cattle nationally in the 1930’s and 40’s.
Shorthorns replaced the commercial and crossbred cattle in 1970 and became the start of a 4-H project for Tom, Dan and Joe Waldron. In 1971, the 4-H show at the Wright County Fair included a shorthorn steer named Jimmy and a shorthorn heifer named Snowflake. They were the first projects of Tom and Dan Waldron. Wildwood Farm has been showing consecutively at the MN state fair since 1974. Also in 1974 we purchased the Sylvester Wesley herd.
